Painting plaster and masonry starts with the right system
We handle painting plaster, painting masonry, facade painting, silicate paint, limewash and related systems for mineral substrates in Gothenburg and Northern Halland. On plastered and masonry walls, the colour rarely decides whether the result lasts. What matters more is whether the paint matches the substrate, whether the wall needs to breathe and whether the preparation was done properly.
Technical guidance on mineral silicate paints makes the same point we see in practice: dense film-forming paints can trap moisture, attract dirt and perform worse over time on mineral facades than more open mineral systems.
Preparation decides whether the paint lasts or peels again
Many facade-paint failures are really substrate failures. If the plaster has cracks, hollow areas, salts, detachment or older coatings that are already failing, simply painting over the top usually just postpones the problem.
We therefore assess the substrate first, remove loose material and repair what needs repairing before paint goes on.
Silicate paint, limewash or something else?
The right paint depends on the plaster, the masonry, the existing coatings and how the wall needs to behave. On many mineral substrates, silicate paint or limewash is a better fit than dense film-forming products because the system works more naturally with the wall.
When older paint layers are part of the problem
We often see painted facades where older dense coatings have started peeling, chalking or failing in layers. Sometimes the paint no longer bonds. In other cases, the wall is trying to release moisture but is held back by the coating.
That is why we want to understand what is already on the wall before recommending the next step.
Older buildings, basements and sensitive substrates need more than standard paint
Older render, lime-based facades, natural stone bases, basement walls and listed settings require more material knowledge than standard painting jobs. The wrong coating can disrupt both appearance and performance.
We therefore adapt the paint system to the substrate rather than forcing the substrate to fit a standard product.
We can help choose and source the right paint
To get a technically sensible result, we often want to be involved in the paint choice. We can help choose the right system and, where it suits the project, source the correct paint for your painter. In some cases we also carry out the painting ourselves as part of a wider masonry or plaster scope.
When painting needs to be planned together with plastering or masonry
Facade painting on plaster and masonry often needs to be planned together with plastering, masonry or lime-based repair work. If the sequence is wrong or the systems are incompatible, the risk of rework goes up.
Our process
- Review of the plaster, masonry, previous coatings and visible damage.
- Assessment of whether the substrate first needs repair or heavier preparation.
- Selection of paint system based on substrate, moisture, exposure and desired finish.
- Execution with the right preparation and the right coats.
- Alignment so you understand why that system was chosen.
What to send us first
Please send photos of the full facade or wall, close-ups of peeling, cracks, blisters or staining, approximate dimensions, any information about the existing paint system, and whether the surface is older render, lime plaster, a basement wall or another sensitive substrate.
Painting in Gothenburg & Northern Halland
We work in Gothenburg, Kungsbacka, Varberg, Fjaras, Frillesas and nearby areas. Whether you need a painted facade renewed, the right silicate paint selected or the cause of peeling paint understood, we start by understanding the substrate.
Get in touch and we will help define the right paint system for your project.
