Masonry chimney in Gothenburg
Chimneys where function, safety and method must line up
We handle chimney renovation, relining, flue liners, sealing and masonry repair when a chimney has poor draft, cracks, leakage or general wear. The key is not to lock onto one method too early. Similar symptoms can have different causes, and the same remedy does not fit every chimney.
Good chimney work means understanding the flue, the masonry, the connected stove and what must be inspected before the system is put back into service.
- Relining when the flue can be renewed internally
- Flue liners when a new channel is needed
- Repairs to cracked or leaking chimney masonry
- Coordination when chimney-sweep inspection is needed
If the issue is more about the fireplace itself, see fireplaces & stoves.
Common chimney problems
Most people contact us because something is wrong: poor draft, cracking, leakage, moisture staining, odours or a sweep has pointed out that something must be corrected before the system can be used safely again. That is why we start with the actual problem rather than jumping straight to a product or method.
Relining – when it is the right choice
Relining can be a good option when the flue needs internal renewal and sealing but is still suitable for that type of repair. It may improve tightness and sometimes draft, but only if the chimney is otherwise appropriate for the method.
Flue liners – when a new channel makes more sense
A flue liner is used when a new, safer or more suitable flue channel is needed inside the chimney. That can be the right approach when the existing flue is too worn, the connected stove has different requirements or the old channel is simply not the correct solution anymore.
Cracks, leaks and masonry defects
Not every chimney issue is inside the flue. Weather, age and freeze-thaw damage can also affect the masonry itself above the roof and around junctions. We assess whether the problem is local repair, repointing, rebuilding of sections or part of a bigger renovation need.
Inspection, sweep approval and clear boundaries
HETAS guidance emphasises that chimneys and flues should be visually inspected as part of professional sweeping and service. That matches our practical approach: chimney work needs clear boundaries between the repair itself and the inspection or approval required before use.
We can help coordinate, but approval is always given by the authorised sweep or inspector.
Our process
- Review of the chimney, stove, visible damage and current issues.
- Assessment of whether the problem is in the flue, the masonry, the connection or several of these at once.
- Method selection such as relining, flue liner or masonry repair.
- Execution with a clear boundary around what must be inspected afterwards.
- Coordination when sweep approval or other checks are needed.
What to send us first
Please send photos of the chimney and stove, a description of the issue, any previous repair history and whether a chimney sweep has already inspected it.
