Active masonry work in Gothenburg
Masonry when the wall needs to last and look right
We handle brickwork, cavity walls, repointing and masonry repairs in Gothenburg and Northern Halland. That can mean new masonry, cracked brickwork, failing mortar joints or older walls where the wrong repair mortar has started to cause trouble.
Good masonry is not just about straight courses. It is about the right mortar, compatible detailing, moisture handling and joint profiles that work with the wall over time.
- New brickwork and cavity walls
- Repointing of brick and masonry
- Repair of cracks, frost damage and local defects
- Masonry details around fireplaces and stoves
New brickwork and cavity-wall masonry
New masonry needs more than bricks and mortar. Cavity walls and brick façades depend on sound detailing for movement, water shedding, junctions and terminations. If those details are wrong, problems often show up later as cracking, staining, trapped moisture or frost damage.
We look at the whole build-up so the new masonry works technically and suits the building visually.
Repointing and masonry repairs
Mortar joints are not just visual. They affect durability, moisture behaviour and the way the masonry works as a system. When joints fail, the damage often spreads into the bricks or stone themselves.
We repair local masonry damage and carry out repointing where the joints have reached the end of their service life. In older walls, the mortar must be compatible with the existing masonry rather than harder than it.
When cracks are more than a cosmetic issue
Cracks in masonry do not automatically mean that an entire wall has failed, but they do mean something needs to be understood before repair. The cause may be movement, settlement, moisture, freeze-thaw action, wrong mortar or poor detailing.
That is why we look for the cause first. Sometimes local repair or repointing is enough. Sometimes the issue points to a larger detail problem. If the defect is mainly in the surface layer, plastering or lime plaster and lime mortar may be more relevant.
The right mortar, the right joint and the right detailing
Historic England’s guidance on repointing older masonry makes the same point we see on site: unsuitable repointing can damage both durability and appearance. Mortar type, texture, colour, profile and compatibility all matter.
In older masonry, lime mortar is often appropriate because it is weaker and more breathable than hard cement-rich mixes. In other walls, a different mortar may be justified. The point is not to guess, but to choose a mortar that works with the masonry. See our guide to lime mortar vs cement-based mortar.
Older masonry needs a different approach
Older walls often form part of a larger moisture system and need materials that can dry and move correctly. Modern one-size-fits-all repairs are often the wrong answer. Hard, dense repairs can create stress and trap moisture in softer masonry.

Our process
- Review of substrate, damage, joints, junctions and access.
- Assessment of whether the job is new masonry, repointing, local repair or part of a bigger issue.
- Mortar and method selection based on the wall and the goal.
- Execution with attention to line, joint profile and durable detailing.
- Ongoing alignment so you understand what is being done and why.
If needed, we also coordinate with adjoining work such as chimneys.
What to send us first
Please send front-facing photos, close-ups of joints and cracks, approximate dimensions, the age of the wall if known, and whether the goal is repair, repointing or new brickwork.
